FINAL

When it comes to the last project we are working on I am bringing some of my past experiences to the table and will try to get closure by resolving the issues I've had with coming to the United States. Going back and taking pictures of the places that made the most impact in me during my first few months in this country has been a bit hard. It is never easy to go back to painful memories but I am hoping I can grow from this and incorporating my art can only bring me closer to finding some sort of answer.

The only bad part is that I am a bit broke and the supplies for my book are not exactly where I want them to be at this point. Hopefully I can come up with something creative while not spending too much money.

Wish me luck!

A LITTLE SHARING

So today I started to think that I had not shared one of my favorite photographers with you guys. If you are not familiar with him, not to worry here is a little sample of his work. He mainly focus on fashion photography and editorial spreads. His name is Patrick Demarchelier. He has a way of working with lighting very familiar to Richard Avedon. Demarchelier's work is inspiring and provocative. Please visit his website and look at some of his work. It's worth your time!

FAIRY TALES

This was the end result of my project of The Little Mermaid. In the end is just a story about a girl who fell in love with a guy who did not love her in return.

THE LITTLE MERMAID

So I have to say I am just a little torn reading the original version of The Little Mermaid. It ruined some of my favorite childhood memories. Some of you may know this but there are certain movies I have to watch in Spanish because that is how I watched them originally. One of those movies is La Sirenita (The Little Mermaid). So to pay tribute to those cherished memories here are some clips of one of my favorite songs of the movie Parte De El, Parte De Tu Mundo (Disney version). And yes they are in Spanish. Enjoy!

FREELENSING

My friend send me this link the other day about a new technique to try out with my camera. Please visit the link. I'm waiting to try it out myself, but if you do try it let me know how it goes. Freelensing Technique

FAIRY TALES

For our next project we are going to be working on our own interpretation of a classic fairy tale book or short story. I drew out The Little Mermaid. Figures right? Considering The Little Mermaid happens to be my favorite Disney movie. But here is the twist...No DISNEY references! I have to draw inspiration and try to interpret the original tale of The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen. It is completely different and is proven to be challenging to come up with my own concept since the tale takes place under water for most of the beginning portion of the story. Many symbols to play with.

Wish me luck guys!

RADIAL

This is was the second portion of the fifth project. It was supposed to create a pattern within a radial space and break down shapes. So here's what I came up with. Hope you guys like!

For our next project we are working on repetition of an international cultural event. I chose the Japanese Tea Ceremony. Here is where I am at the moment.

DIFFERENT

I came across this artist while I was in my documentary class. Elena Dorfman Still Lovers is the series that really spoke to me about female and male interaction. It is different and it shows a different perspective on love, relationships and human behavior. Please check it out Still Lovers. It does contain explicit content but keep your mind open and let me know what you think.

Enjoy!

SOMETHING DIFFERENT

I came across this video. It was delicate and interesting. Overall it made me feel warm and fuzzy inside for some odd reason. I know that school is getting stressfull so maybe this can help out in some small way.

Enjoy!

NEW DISCOVERY

While looking at some artists with Mallory for inspiration for our collage and montage project we came across this artist Rochelle Summerfield. Hopefully it can serve as inspiration or point of reference aside from the examples we got in class.

Hope it helps!

SHOOTING FOR PLEASURE

When you do something you love and take every assignment so serious you can forget about the little things. I ended taking my camera to my brother's soccer game and i ended up having more fun than I've had in a while. ENJOY!

MOVEMENT

I started thinking the other day about how we as a society transport, how we move. We are no longer moved by our limbs, instead we are taken from one place to the other by pieces of metal. Whatever happened to the strolls in the park and walking from one location to another using our own two feet. We have created more ways to be lazy and make things faster, but what exactly are we gaining. I think a more appropriate question is to ask what are we losing.

It's time to get back to some of our roots and start walking, walk with purpose. It's the only way to get where you want to go.

Next step....transportation through my eyes.

NEW ADDITION

I celebrated my birthday recently and with a new year come new additions. In this case I was fortunate enough to receive a magnificent present, an AF70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di LD Macro lens. I can't wait to go out there and start experimenting with it and hopefully improve my techniques and learn new ones.

Let's see where it take me! ;D

HELLO WORLD

How can someone tell their story and not forget any details along the way? Only by retraicing their own steps is that different elements of their journey are not forgotten or dismissed. I long hope that my journey can bring someone else light into their own creativity and know that good work only gets to be good by messing up, A LOT.
This will be my way of going back to my mistakes, my initial thoughts, my creative process, back to the moment of "what was I thinking??" and come out with the answer that satisfies the urge to create and be proud of the final product.

My name is Andrea and welcome to my photographic journey.
